So what is going on at constables mobility T/a constables limited?

For over 2 weeks now we have tried to ring Laura in the parts / spares department and the phone goes straight to answer phone, we have left messages and also rang the main switch board which says e mail us or look on our web site, which is not good, we needed to order a spare part for a ramp which we have now had fabricated in our workshop and we also need to ask a technical question about a fault on a ford focus constables car chair system. where are they ? have they gone bust? are the receivers in at constables ?

if you can shed any light on this drop us a line and we can may try to help by broadcasting the info on our web page or we do know the constables cars very well and we maybe able to help with other questions or queries. e mail us via our contact page.

Disabled cars have been around for many years now, which is great news on a couple of fronts. It means that advances have been made in technology with every generation of disability cars and vans, allowing more choice, better access and by definition more potential independence for people with mobility issues. It is also good news for anyone that would usually be looking for a second hand car, but because of problems with mobility is restricted to a disabled car or van yet still needs one at a second hand price. The range of functional disabled cars and vans in good condition has grown and is still continuing to grow.

If you are looking for a disabled car or van then choosing a second hand one doesn’t mean having to settle for something less than what is 100% suited to your needs. Whether you choose to stay in or transfer out of your chair, or whether you drive or need to be driven, there is something out there suitable, and there is no pressure to buy new because you think that’s the only way you will get something suitable. There are a number of sites and suppliers of second hand disability vehicles with a good range, and we count ourselves amongst the more informed and informative. You will most likely want as much information as is possible about the vehicles you are looking at, because you need to know if it is something that will meet your needs and meet them with the minimum effort on your part. Your vehicle needs to be something simple for you to use and easily accessible. Anything you will struggle with will only further complicate your life. Shopping around for what’s the right fit is the best way to work, and we are happy to help you in any way that we can.

If you want as much information and advice as you can get about disabled cars and vans, how to buy them and check that they will meet your current and future needs, come and see us or call us and we are happy to take the time to talk through the options available to you.

When looking at wheelchair access cars there are a number of different aspects to look at in order to pick the perfect wheelchair accessible vehicles for you. The technology surrounding disability vehicles has progressed extensively giving disabled customers a much larger amount of choice and the fact that this kind of vehicle has been around for much longer than ever before also means there are a great many more older yet still accessible cars. This gives a greater potential for buying a more affordable second hand car for those who do not have the funds available for a brand new car, in the way that many people don’t, but still want to be able to get around and be as independent as is possible

Whilst there are a number of things to consider when looking at wheelchair access cars and vans, the main one is naturally what you capabilities are with regards to whether you can drive yourself or need to be driven. If you need to be driven you need to look at if you feel more comfortable in the front or are happier in the back. There are options available for both choices. Whether you are driving yourself or being driven, another thing to consider is whether you want to stay in your chair when driving or travelling or are able and comfortable transferring out of your chair and using the seating available. The industry leaders in disability vehicles are quickly catching on to the wide range of different needs that people have, and you will now see more choices than ever.

Whilst it is easy to get caught up with what you need, never forget that you also have to think about what you want. At the end of the day this is your car or van. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with discussing what colour or style you do and do not like, you shouldn’t feel like you have to settle for whatever you can use and not get a personal input just the same as everyone else.

To talk about what you need and what you want in a disability vehicle, and finding the perfect one for you, give us a call for as much information and advice as you need.

Help us help others, We want to donate to charities,

Our workaholic managing director at wheelchair cars wants to donate a certain amount of money to different child based charities. In conversation our boss said;

“The first time i gave to charity was a couple of years ago, i was in the parts department at Peugeot, on the counter was a photo of a small girl (Emma Hoolin) in a hospital bed, she had no hair and she had more tubes and pipes than the plumb section of b&q. The photo was accompanied by a leaflets requesting donations and publicity. i returned back to the office, looked at the website, then immediately wrote a cheque, It felt great”.

The boss went on to say; “I wrote a small cheque to a website run by a husband and wife team not to long ago, who give help and advice to parents of children. As i wrote the cheque, my wife / long term girl friend of 26 years said, have you forgot we need a new roof on our house while you are giving money away! to which i laughed. (it only leeks a bit and it can wait)”.

Now don’t get me wrong, we don’t have vast amounts to give away, but if we can donate some money and get a message out to other company directors, that it makes you feel good to donate spare funds. then it is a worth while thing we are doing.

The only stipulations are;

We will only give to child based charities.

the charity must have a registered charity number.

a website.

All contacts must be through e mail via this site. ( we can not have our phones / switch board jammed).

cut off will be the end of April 2013.

So; spread the word, e mail a friend, tweet it, blog it, link it, facebook it, like it, phone a friend, copy and paste it, shout it, do what you can.

This is the latest news from a child website we donated to (our name is on the sponsors page);

Emma Hoolin, the brave four-year-old from Whitley, Wigan, who spent five months in Philadelphia undergoing treatment for Neuroblastoma, has returned home to friends and family and is now well enough to start school.

(yes, job well done).

Transfer from wheelchair to car to drive, explained.

Not many people know there is such a car on the market, where as you can approach the rear of the the vehicle in your wheelchair or on your mobility scooter, press a button on a remote control which will then open up the power assisted tailgate and ramp, you can then enter the rear of the car, position your wheelchair near the front drivers seat which is a 6 way power movable seat, you are now able to slide across from your wheelchair onto the drivers seat. there is 3 buttons on the drivers seat so you can now turn your drivers seat into the right direction, lower the seat and send the seat forward into the driving position. once in the driving position you can press another button on the remote control which will fully close the ramp and tailgate.

These internal transfer to drive cars are excellent way of getting you independence back, you will be able to go out on your own in your power wheelchair without any help from anyone.

we are the largest stockist of these vehicles in the UK and we are happy to say we know the product well. see our used transfer vehicles here: wheelchair cars for sale

Christmas gift idea ! and its for a good cause.

(this is a copy of an e mail we agreed to, why not buy a loved one a balloon for Christmas?)

Dear Pete,

It was lovely speaking to you today. Thank you for wheelchair cars agreeing to sponsor a balloon in Shine’s Race for Carers event, taking place February 2013. Please email me back with your mailing address and Full company name and I will send a charity invoice to you for the £30.

The funds raised from the event will support the many people that are voluntary carers for babies, children and adults with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus. They include parents, grandparents, family members and dedicated friends.

The role of the carer is vital to our members’ welfare and can range greatly, from expert day to day personal care for severely disabled children, to ensuring our disabled adults are able to leave the house to do their shopping or attend important hospital appointments. This can be a 24 hour commitment for many of our carers as some severely disabled children and adults require round the clock monitoring.

Supporting the carers forms a very significant part of Shine’s work. Even if you dearly love the person, caring for them can be demanding, exhausting and lonely. We estimate that we offer support for around 9000 people offering their services voluntarily on a daily basis. 28% of them work to supplement the family income and 38% are also carers for an elderly relative or second disabled person in the family.

We offer the carers help and support via e-mail, by telephone and in person. Shine’s trained staff and nurses can provide immediate help on how to support the person in their care, information about a medical condition, or simply be there as someone to talk to in order to relieve the stress. We also organise events, such as Family Weekends, where carers can share their experiences with others in similar situations and gain advice and guidance from the expertly trained staff that are on hand.

‘My child relies on me for company and companionship, sometimes I feel I am just a Mum/Carer and not my own person’

Your kind support in sponsoring a balloon (or making a donation) would ensure that we are able to continue providing the services outlined above, and lifelong support to our carers when they need us.

Our balloon race is a fun way to make a serious difference – your balloon(s) and you have the chance to win a case of champagne and a month’s worth of advertising your name/logo and kind support for us on our website. Once you’ve bought your balloon you can view it on-line and modify it. Then, when the race starts you can follow its fortunes as it flies across landmarks on Google Earth, competing against the balloons of other kind supporters to win the race.

The balloons will be launched 1st February 2013.

Balloons can be sponsored as follows, all proceeds benefit Shine charity.

£30 for 1 balloon

£60 for 2 balloons£90 for 3 balloons

If you would like to support our carers by sponsoring a balloon/balloons please contact me on the number below.

If you would prefer not to sponsor a balloon but would like to support our work by way of a personal donation then this would be most gratefully received. If you wish to make a donation by cheque please make it payable to Shine and send to Amanda Sanderson, Shine, 42 Park Road Peterborough PE12UQ.

Alternatively you can phone 01733421334 and make a donation by debit card over the phone.

We really do appreciate your interest and support. If we can help you with any further information, or if you have an interest in alternative ways of supporting Shine then please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Thank you!

It’s not only snow and ice that can affect journeys during winter, but strong winds, heavy rain and thick fog too! If you do need to travel there are some simple steps that can help you reduce the risk of being caught out;

Check your disabled vehicle is ready for winter or get it serviced!

Use non freeze screen wash,

keep your fuel tank full, (if you get stuck in snow, keep the engine running and the heater on).

make sure you mobile phone is fully charged.

Pack an emergency kit – including a shovel, warm clothing, food and drink, and any regularly taken medication

Be alert – road conditions may change, drive with care and allow our crews the time and space to keep the network clear for you

Just a few minutes checking before you set off can make all the difference to your journey.
